- This medicine should be taken by mouth (orally) usually once daily or as directed by the doctor.
- This medicine can be taken best on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after having a meal.
- Medicine to be taken with full glass of water unless doctor says otherwise. And if stomach upset occurs then take this medicine with food.
- Within 2 hours before or after taking the medication, avoid using antacids, dairy products, tea, or coffee as this will decrease effectiveness of it.
- After taking its tablets or capsules don’t lie down for at least 10 minutes.
Primary Uses
Indications
This medicine is indicated in prophylaxis (to prevent disease) & treatment of iron deficiency anemia (not enough hemoglobin to carry oxygen in blood), promotes hematopoiesis (production of all the cellular components of blood), lack of appetite & growth.
Side Effects
Side effects experienced may include constipation, diarrhea, upset stomach; these effects are temporary & disappears after some time. Iron present may cause stool to turn black, but this effect is not harmful. A very serious allergic reaction is rare. But if symptoms of allergic arise like rash, itching, swelling (face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness & breathing difficulty; then immediately consult a doctor.

This medicine is contraindicated in patients with decreased kidney function, diarrhea, various types of GI ulcers and GI inflammation, excess iron in the body, diabetes, some types of blood disorders, and hyperkalemia (high levels of potassium in the blood) dehydration among other conditions.
