Mixel suspension contains cefixime in it which belongs to cephalosporin class of antibiotics. Cephalosporin class of antibiotics acts by weakening the outermost bacterial layer and cause breakdown of bacterial cell wall and stops growth of bacteria. Mixel is indicated for a vast variety of bacterial infections in children (above age 10) & adults. It is used in treatment of UTIs (urinary tract infections), throat infections including tonsilitis & pharyngitis, ear infections, skin & soft tissue infections & in biliary tract infections. It is also used for treating deteriorating symptoms of severe bronchitis cases.

- Cefixime present in the suspension is known to interact with medicines like anticonvulsants (carbamazepine), & anticoagulants (blood thinners) like warfarin. So, keep doctor informed of all the medications that are in your use.
- Inform doctor before taking mixel if you have past medical history of phenylketonuria (increase in level of phenylalanine in blood), colitis, liver, or kidney disease.
- A prior use of mixel or unwanted use of it may lead to increased risks of anemia (less red blood cells in body).
- Patients with abnormal liver function & poor nutritional states have increased risk of fall in prothrombin time (PTT, means blood clots faster than normal) while using cefixime
- Risks of cefixime increases in patients with kidney related issues where prothrombin activity falls.
- Severe side effects reported while its use in pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of colon)
- Cefixime should not be used in Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea as it leads to further severity in inflammatory condition of intestine.
