Indications
Ibuprofen is used to provide relief from mild, moderate and severe pain, and reduction of fever and swelling.
Side Effects
The extensive use of ibuprofen may cause stomach upset and bleeding, skin rash, thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) and rarely aseptic meningitis (inflammation of membrane covering the brain) If you experience any of these symptoms please consult your doctor. Other side effects include nausea, flatulence, vomiting, headache and infusion site pain.

Precautions
Individuals taking the medication are adivised to monitor renal and gastrointestinal functions. An ECG must be carried out before administration to exclude pulmonary hypertension (increases pressure in the lungs) and ductal dependent congenital heart disease (congenital heart disease). Lung pressure must be monitered incase of hypoxemia (low levels of oxygen in the body). Caution is advised in cases of infections.
Contraindications
This medicine is contraindicated in the case of hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, aspirin or any other NSAID. It is also contraindicated in the case of active bleeding, severe kidney impairment, gastrointestinal disorders, life threatening infections, thrombocytopenia (low levels of platelets) and other coagulation disorders, necrotising enterocolitis (severe infection of colon), high billirubinemia (high levels of billirubin in the blood), liver diseases and congenital heart diseases.

Avoid doing work that requires alertness such as driving immediately after taking this medicine as it may cause drowsiness, monitor renal and gastrointestinal function, check heart function before starting therapy, and monitor blood pressure.

You may experience drowsiness, headache, dizziness, white blood cell count changes, and upset stomach.
Administration:
This medicine is mostly used orally (through mouth). The dose is dependent on the age, condition and its severity. Consult your doctor before use. This medicine is not recommended for children under 3 months or less than 5 kg.
Contraindications:
Severe renal (kidney) impairment, severe infections, hyperbilirubinemia (increased bilirubin), heart impairments.
